Starting out as an adviser, Stefan left advising to concentrate on managing a growing regional Multi RI firm. Stefan has always been keen on investments and is a qualified DFM. He previously chaired his firm’s investment committee before engaging Asset Intelligence Research. As a former adviser, firm owner and importantly a client, he is well positioned to help shape our proposition to be truly client focussed.

Which famous person would you most like to swap places with for the day?

Elon Musk – I would love to see an insight into the web of interlinked businesses he has, as a keen Tesla owner/enthusiast I would also love to understand what actually goes on in Tesla.

What book should everybody read in their lifetime?

Shoe Dog – The inside story of Nike over the years, a fascinating insight into the challenges of growing the business from a basement to company of today

Active or passive?

Both – I firmly believe there is a case for both options, it is hard to ignore the benefit of a low cost passive solution particularly for sectors you feel neutral about. That being said I believe the emotion of the story of an active fund, particularly the success stories of stock picking are very compelling. I also feel the downside protection offered from a well-run active fund is attractive to most investors.

Who is your favourite fund manager?

Chris Taylor of Neptune Japan – I have always found him to be very passionate, interesting and controversial in his analysis. He can make a refreshing change due to his conviction around certain areas and his honesty around his views

What sector do you find the most interesting?

Perhaps linked to the above I have always found Japan very interesting, the complexity of the currency hedge, the economic challenges faced within the country together with a history of people getting it wrong make it an interesting sector to review and a difficult one to get right. I like a challenge and this is perhaps why I find Japan so interesting.
